New Presentation Cross-browser Web Control

Scope

Product: GXplorer Web, GXquery Web

Introduction

When working with GXplorer and GXquery Web interfaces a new cross-browser control is available to display the associated query data.

Description

A new information presentation component (chart and pivot table option) called Cross-browser controls has been added as default value to the ones currently available when working with GXplorer and GXquery Web interfaces:

  • Microsoft Office Web Components Pivot Table (reduced version of Excel Pivot Tables).
  • Microsoft Office Web Components Charts.
At metadata level, the catalog administrator can define the default component to be used to present the information.
For this, the following options are added from the Settings tool, using the Settings -> Web option:
  • Office Web Components.
  • Cross-browser controls (Default).

By default, every user will visualize the information using the component selected by the administrator.
Nevertheless, the end user can customize these settings from the Web interface, modifying its properties from the Settings option, indicating the control he wants to use.

In the option Show Data using the user must indicate if the data will be displayed using the new control (Cross-browser Controls - Default value) or using the Microsoft Office Web Components (in this case two other options are enabled allowing to indicate which components version is going to be used).

There follows an example of the execution of a query with Pivot Table format:

The default format is an interactive table that enables to easily sum and show a high number of cross-related data. Rows and columns can be pivoted to see different sums, filter data showing the different pages or show details for any area of interest.

You can also use the chart component, using the Graph Query option. The following dialog will be displayed detailing the characteristics of the chart to be created. Among them, the Type option allows selecting from the different types of charts available:

The following figure shows an example selecting the Column-Grouped option.
