This property is used, for example, to determine the syntax for OUTER JOINs and for table creation/reorganization (i.e. syntax of CREATE TABLE, CREATE INDEX, etc.).
Note: Although the property can be set to MySQL version 8.x, there are still some known issues related to Geography data types and time zones among others that are under review. So the MySQL 8.x version is still not fully supported (as of November 2018).
This property applies only at design-time.
