The mobile device revolution gave way to a new world of native applications, including new ways to build web applications.
A new challenge now is to arrange the layout so that all information is presented in a readable format, and with an optimal viewing experience across different devices and screen sizes.
To enable successful websites to be built and work across various platforms and devices, a common approach is to develop what W3C calls a One Web site, with a Responsive Web Design approach.

The so-called One Web approach, is that “One Web means making, as far as is reasonable, the same information and services available to users irrespective of the device they are using. One Web approach ensures that the web application will work on smartphones as well as on tablets and desktops."

The technique to be used is RWD, which gives us the possibility to express different visual features on the layout, depending on the size of the device’s screen.

In such scenario, GeneXus allows for the design of Responsive Web Applications in a very intuitive manner. The solution uses BootStrap, one of the most popular Front-End Development Frameworks.

The basic elements of responsive design - fluid grids, flexible media, and CSS media queries - are features that GeneXus users need not be concerned about, because all resources are used in a transparent way. The user will only need to design the web forms using the Web Abstract Editor. Web forms are generated as Responsive by default, depending on the Web Form Defaults property.

So minimal requirements have to be considered. See Considerations to develop a Responsive Web Application.
