GeneXus X Evolution 3 Upgrade 2

This article is an overview of what Upgrade 2 features (compared to GeneXus X Evolution 3 Upgrade 1) and what needs to be taken into account in order to adopt it.

Overview

GeneXus X Evolution 3 Upgrade 2 supports iOS 8, iPhone 6 and 6+, and includes Windows Phone Generator (Beta). It improves Responsive Web Design and Smooth features.

iOS

• Apple Requirements have changed in order to compile (XCode 6 is required and Yosemite recommended).
• iPhone 6 and 6+ support added
  • New KB Platforms: iPhone 4.7", iPhone 5.5"
  • Added 3x value in Density property (Extra-extra-high-density screens support)
• New iOS Launch Image property and  iOS Application Icon property
• iOS 8 support improved
  • Location Always Usage Description and Location When In Use Usage Description properties added.
  • New methods of the iOSPermissions external object to request permission to use location services whenever the app is running in the background.
• Beacons support added
• Resolution of recorded videos can be set using CameraAPI external object or in Video Attributes. More Information...
• Key Color behavior changed for Apple devices with iOS8.

Android

• Videos, Images, and Audios are uploaded using streaming techniques. (SAC 36805)

• Synchronization Receive - improvements in error handling. More Information... 
• Offline code generation improvement: Data Receive Criteria property can be set to "Never" in order to not generate synchronization programs.
• Minimum Time Between Sends property added at Offline Database objects.
• Offline applications support the Directory and File data types. In addition, new static properties are available for the Directory data type, which allow working with the file system of the devices. More Information...

Compatibility

Compatibility Notes for X Evolution 3 Upgrade 1 Users

• Version 9.6.2 of the protection is required in order to use this version or higher versions. This upgrade must be installed using the GeneXus setup. If you are using  the centralized licenses scheme and/or the GeneXus Protection Server, you must download and install version 9.6.2 or higher.
  Error "Invalid protection version XXX, required version 9.6.2 or higher." will be displayed if the protection is outdated:
  
• Apple Requirements have changed. Having Xcode 6.0 or higher is now a requirement to compile iOS applications. Yosemite is a requirement in order to launch the emulator when you Run your app from GeneXus. 
• Property Changes due to iOS 8 and iPhone 6 and 6+ support:
  • The following main object properties have been deleted and iOS Launch Image property has to be set instead: iPhone Launch Image, iPhone Retina Launch Image, iPhone 5 Retina Launch Image, iPad Landscape Launch Image, iPad Retina LandscaLaunch Image, iPad Portrait Launch Image, iPad Retina Portrait Launch Image. 
  • The following main object properties have been deleted and iOS Application Icon property has to be set instead: iPhone Application Icon, iPhone Retina Application Icon, iPad Application Icon, iPad Retina Application Icon, iTunes Application Icon, iTunes Retina Application Icon, Search Results Application Icon, Search Results Retina Application Icon, Settings Application Icon, Settings Retina Application Icon
  • The following main object properties have been deleted and Empty Target Background Image property has to be set instead: iPad Landscape Background Image, iPad Retina Landscape Background Image, iPad Portrait Background Image, iPad Retina Portrait Background Image. 
• Synchronization.Receive method return values have changed.
• Team Development: Since this upgrade includes new properties, you need to upgrade GXserver to Upgrade 2 too.
• Web Panels: In runtime, the error 'Field <variable> is out of range' may appear if values not corresponding to the domain are added programmatically. More information: SAC 27519
