If you want to incorporate any changes made by other developers in a Knowledge Base hosted in a GeneXus Server instance, use the Update From Server operation.

To do this follow the steps below:

  • Select the Knowledge Manager / Team Development menu option to open the Knowledge Manager Team Development dialog.
  • Go to the Update from Server tab.
  • Use the Preview button if you just want to see the modifications that have been made since your last Update operation.
  • Press the Update button to incorporate all the modifications into your local Knowledge Base.
  • Check the Team Development output window to make sure the operation was completed successfully.
  • Also, you can pick the group of properties you wish to import from GXserver checking the KB Properties, Version Properties or Environment Properties.

Tip: Use the scope section to select the objects you want to be included in the Update, objects not in included the scope will not be updated.

Update Options

If any object fails to update, the entire operation is reverted and no object gets modified. In these cases, GeneXus may automatically deselect the objects with errors, so that you can easily retry a new update that doesn't include them (you can go to the 'Preview' tab and click on 'Update Selected' to do so). By default, GeneXus will ask you for confirmation before automatically deselecting the objects with errors, and you may also indicate you want to use the same answer in the future.

Deselect after Update Fail

On "Tool/Options/Team Development/Automatically deselect objects after failed Update" you can configure this behavior. The possible values are:

  • Always: Automatically deselect all the objects (and referenced objects) that fail on an update operation (without asking for user confirmation)
  • Never: Never deselect objects.
  • Ask: Ask the user each time.

By clicking "Preview" button, the contextual grid will be shown, containing information retrieved from the Server about the Knowledge Base. As described in the first image, this grid shows Description, Last Modified date-time and the last Action for each object. However, Name, Type and a Status, cannot be shown (as in the picture below).
