The following frequently asked questions (FAQs) have been designed for a better understanding of the GeneXus BPM (Business Process Management) suite. They provide basic information regarding technical issues and licensing.

Process Modeling

1. Can a diagram defined with a different tool be imported? 

Yes, as long as you abide by the XPDL format. Import from XPDL Option.

2. Can a diagram be exported to other formats? 

Yes, to XPDL. Export to XPDL Option.

3. What XPDL version is supported? 

Go to GeneXus XPDL Support.

4. What process modeling standard is supported? 

The BPMN standard in version 2.0.

5. Can GXserver be used with the GeneXus Business Process Modeler? 

Yes.

6. Is diagram versioning supported? 

Yes.

7. Can Transactions, Web Panels, etc. be modified with the GeneXus Business Process Modeler? 

No, it only inserts data relative to the processes (metadata) in the database.

8. Does the GeneXus Business Process Modeler generate source code? 

No, it only inserts the data of the processes (metadata) in the database.
 

Executing Processes

1. Can objects developed with a tool other than GeneXus be included in one's own process ?

Yes. That is possible to the extent that calls to external programs are made within the GX objects, for only GX objects may be associated with the diagram.

2. Can the Client in GXflow be customized?

3. Can GXflow be integrated with the GAM?

Yes. Read more at: GXflow - GAM Integration.

4. When developing more than one application that uses GXflow, can a user with tasks in both applications have a single Inbox?

Not at present. We are working on it. GXflow tables are created in the application’s database.

5. Can tasks from another system be generated?

Yes, by using the GXflow API. HowTo: Start a Process from an External Application.

6. Is it possible to receive an email message when there's a new task?

Yes. The Send Email property of the task must be set up. Read: Send e-mail property.

7. What happens to processes in runtime when the diagrams are modified?

 They continue to run with the previous version. The new ones created start taking the new definition of the process.

8. Is it possible to make queries on the processes to obtain statistical information?

Yes. It is possible to view statistical graphs in the (GXflow Statistics). It is also possible to use GXplorer to work with Datawarehouse, (GXflow X DataWarehouse).
 

GXflow for Mobile

1. Can an GXflow Inbox be seen from a Mobile Device?  

Yes. Since GeneXus X Evolution 2 Upgrade 1. It is a .xpz distributed with GeneXus that is consolidated in the Knowledge Base, and it is possible to modify any object from that SD client. For more information, read: My first BPM Application.

2. In which platforms is available?

Android (from XEv2 U1), Apple (from XEv2 U1).
 

General

1. Can documents be attached to one's own processes? 

Yes. Read more at: HowTo: Work with documents in GXflow

2. How can a process based application be started? 

The deploy of programs is the same as the deploy of a GeneXus application. You then have to create the GXflow tables in the database (same than for the app) and impact the information of diagrams. To do this, the tool called Business Process Deployer is used. Read more at: HowTo: Deploy a Workflow-based Application

3. Can the processes be impacted without GeneXus? 

Yes, with the Business Process Deployer and the GeneXus Business Process Modeler.

4. What is GeneXus Business Process Modeler? 

It is a free, standalone tool that allows modeling business processes and then includes them in the GeneXus application. Read more at: GeneXus Business Process Modeler.

5. What is Business Process Deployer? 

It is a standalone tool that enables the creation/modification of GXflow tables in the production environment, as well as impacting the information of business processes. It is installed with the GXflow setup.
 

Architecture - Requirements

1. What platforms does GXflow support? 

Java.NET, Apple, Android.

2. What DBMS does GXflow support?  

The same as GeneXus (SQLServer, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, DB2 iSeries, DB2 UDB, Informix, SAP Hana DB).

Licensing

1. When there's than one application (different Knowledge Bases) that share users, can the same license be used?

Yes.

2. Does the GeneXus Business Process Modeler require licensing?

It does not require licenses, it’s totally free.

3. What about licensing for the GXflow client?

Licenses may be nominative (license per inbox user) or concurrent (infinite inbox users).

4. Is a Mobile license for using the GXflow SD Client needed?

Yes.
