The purpose of this article is to provide an introduction to BPMN (Business Process Modeling Notation) based on the book "BPMN: Modeling and Reference Guide" by Stephen A. White and Derek Miers. The book is based on version 1.1 of the BPMN specification. In addition, the various BPMN concepts will be compared with what GeneXus offers today for business process modeling, in order to determine what you have to do to support this notation.

The sections below examine each one of the elements that make up this specification:

  1. Overview
  2. Process Categories
  3. Activities
  4. Events
  5. Gateways
  6. Swimlanes
  7. Artifacts
  8. Connectors
  9. Advanced Concepts

These slides provide a very good introduction to the subject.
